This week in Orongomai we have been practicing for our up and coming assembly next Friday. The children have been getting very creative using stop motion and green screen to animate a movie. Below is a stop motion video of the first cow landing on the moon. Stop motion animation movie We have also continued learning about our solar system and space. Today we celebrated all students who participated in the Orongomai fun run! It was a beautiful day and we were very lucky to have such great weather. Thank you to all of those who showed up to support our runners. Well done to those children who received certificates for their superb efforts. Your training has well and truly paid off! Thanks the Orongomai teachers.

Week 9 This week in Orongomai has been a busy week. We have been learning about Conservation week and the Rugby world cup. We have also had Liam from  Halswell Football club here taking sessions with our classes.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. -Greetings to you all.  Term 3 Week 8: Te wiki o te reo  Māori  takes place this year between 9th and 15th September. We have been integrating Te Reo into our learning this week and have also been listening to a variety of M ā ori myths and legends in Orongomai. (Click the 'Creation Myth' link below) to watch the children re-create the 'Creation myth' using an app called puppet pals'. Creation Myth T о̄tara have also been creating and weaving baskets from the myth 'Tane and the Three Baskets of Knowledge.'

Term 3 Week 3 This week we have had a focus on light houses, electricity circuits and ropes / pulleys. This has come from our Literacy focus on 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch'.  We asked some great questions about our electrical circuits.  -"What happens if you use two batteries?" -"What if you break the circuit?" -"What if you had no batteries?" -"What if you had two bulbs?"

Term 3, Week 2. This week we have been focusing on a range of topics including; health and wellbeing, the Lighthouse Keepers Lunch, gymnastics and parent conferencing.  Here is a photo of the children creating a pulley system to transfer the basket from the spider web to the classroom and colour coding the digi blocks for lighthouse creations. (Inspired from The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch book). During literacy this week we read Presto Pizza and learnt how to make pizza with Miss Heveldt.

We are working hard on our production "The Magical Museum". The Orongomai Museum was officially opened by Mr Cameron and the children are enjoying spending time in there.  The backdrop for the "Wave Dance" is looking great too!

Football Fun!

Football Fun! Over the past fortnight Orongomai has taken part in a soccer session run by Jono from Halswell Football. The children really enjoyed the chance to get out on the field and learn some new football skills.

Wonderful Wonderings

 Over the last few weeks during Wonderings we have been exploring activities related to Asian culture. We have created Terracotta Soldiers, made sundials and fans, created the Great Wall of China and discovered pieces of Willow Pattern china in our sandpit.

Chinese New Year Activities!

This week we have been doing some more activities related to Chinese New Year during Wonderings. We have had so much fun creating lanterns, writing Chinese characters and becoming dragons!
