Today we were very interested by the helicopters zooming overhead. We decided to do an inquiry into the fire.
We went outside and kept a tally of how many went past to dump their monsoon buckets onto the fire. There were 17 in 10 minutes!
We worked out than in one hour, that was 102 helicopters that had dumped a bucket on the fire. We went and Googled how much water a monsoon bucket could carry. We averaged it out at about 3000 Litres. We had no idea how much 3000 litres was so we thought we would check to see how much they were carrying. We all helped to fill up a rubbish bin and only managed 23 litres in the bucket!
SO that means that the helicopters put 302,000 litres on the fire in only one hour! Well done helicopter pilots.
