The Hawk and the Squirrel by Mrs Kelly's writers
Hawk
and Squirrel
It
was Autumn in the forest. The golden-brown leaves were dancing and twirling all
the way to the ground while the sun was flashing through the ginormous trees.
On the ground, crunching through the leaves, was a tiny cute brown squirrel.
The
squirrel scampered about hiding under the leaves and then popped out. He
scurried around looking for nuts. He grabbed a nut and then ran up a tree but
he didn’t notice a hawk staring at him with big, beady eyes. The hawk walked
with his razor sharp claws chipping the branch to take a closer look at the
squirrel.
The
squirrel didn’t notice anything until suddenly the hawk launched into the air
flying and swooping after the squirrel. The squirrel scurried away as fast as
he could and just escaped. The squirrel scampered up and down trees until
finally he saw a nest. He raced into the nest terrified and huddled inside
thinking he was safe until… the hawk swooped onto the nest, knocking it over.
The
squirrel jumped to the ground trying to hide in the leaves. The hawk wasn’t
fooled though. He chased the squirrel up and down trees. ‘Oh no,’ hesitated the
squirrel, looking at the big jump he had to do. He determinedly closed his eyes
and… jumped! When he opened his eyes he found he was standing on the tree branch
he wanted to jump to. He had made it! YAY! He couldn’t believe he had actually
done it!
The
squirrel ran and ran as fast as he could, praying that the hawk wouldn’t catch
up with him. The squirrel ran so hard that his legs were aching really badly.
He kept on running anyway until finally he found a small hole in a tree. The
squirrel sprinted as fast as he could until he leapt into the hole. The hole
was quite small so he wriggled until he felt his legs touch the ground. He
waited anxiously until the hawk gave up and flew away. He peeked out, scanning
the peaceful forest looking for more danger. He was safe at last.

Hawk
and Squirrel
In the
Autumn forest the trees were as tall as mountains and the leaves were dangling
from the branches by their tips. Then a squirrel sprang out of a tree and
snatched a nut. Suddenly a hawk spied the squirrel and was intrigued to chase
after it because it was so simple. The hawk launched from the tree and chased
the squirrel like a shadow. Then the chase was on.
After that
the squirrel scrammed across the tree trying to get to the nest. As soon as he
hid in the nest the hawk demolished it, so the squirrel abandoned the nest and
leapt down to the ground and squeezed through a hole in a log. He realised he
was safe and secure as he had the quickest look of his life and he scurried out
to find more acorns.

Hawk
and Squirrel
Once
on an Autumn day, there was a gorgeous forest with tall towering trees of
unthinkable heights. The leaves were twirling to the ground like graceful
ballerinas. Suddenly a squirrel popped up amazingly sharply. He was running
everywhere looking for nuts. All of a sudden a hawk came out of nowhere. It saw
the squirrel and took a closer look and shot off like a bullet chasing the poor
squirrel. Just at that moment the squirrel saw the hawk and… ran so fast he
almost tripped. He was running along unsteady branches, through logs and leaves
until he found a nest. He curled up in the nest like he was in a tiny, soft,
furry blanket until the hawk violently bashed him out of the nest, with leaves
flying everywhere. The horrified squirrel leapt out of the ruined nest and
luckily landed safely. Again he ran through the deep carpet of leaves and up
the uncomfortable logs until he saw a tiny wee hole in the middle of a dark,
deep tree that the hawk was too big to fit in. The little squirrel hid in there
for a second. It was silent, but in a big surprise the hawk came back. His
sharp claws were digging at the tree for minutes then eventually he gave up.
The squirrel was finally safe.
